Seahawks/Bears Sunday Night NFL

The Seahawks fly into the Windy City for a Sunday Night NFL matchup without the reigning league MVP Shaun Alexander. Now the Bears will have to contend with a barrage of four-receiver sets as the Seahawks turn their dependency to Matt Hasselbeck and his right arm. Hasselbeck threw for five touchdowns to tie a franchise record last week against the G-men, but the Bears’ defense will be a much tougher egg to crack. The Bears haven’t allowed a passing touchdown this season and With Seattle looking to air it out more Sunday, we can expect more turnovers, more points, or both from the Seahawks.

I’m also expecting more offense from Chicago who struggled last week against the Vikes in the Dome. Grossman is still a young quarterback as injuries have kept him from playing full seasons and he has made some rookie-like mistakes. However, he has shown guts. He doesn't let his mistakes bother him and bounces back to make the next play. We saw his resiliency last week against the Vikings when he responded to lead the Bears to victory after throwing an interception which was returned for a touchdown to put them in a hole.

The Bears are 4-1 at Soldier Field under Grossman and 8-1 at Solider Field since the beginning of last season. However, Seattle has history on its side winning six of the last seven meetings between the two teams, but only two of those meeting have been more recent than 1990.

With Alexander out of the lineup the Seahawks aren’t a sitting duck, but they aren’t the same team which led the league in scoring last season. The Bears defense is healthy and better than ever, however, they will have some problems against Seattle’s four wide receiver sets. You can’t cover four wide outs every single play so the streak of not giving up a passing touchdown will likely end Sunday. Ultimately, Seattle is going to have trouble controlling the football on offense, as most teams do against these modern day monsters of the midway, especially without Alexander. I’m still anticipating a close football game on the Sunday night stage, but my small lean is on the Chicago Bears at home. The offense should respond this week and the defense should have several opportunities to make big plays. The Bears have also shown that they can come from behind on the road as they did last week. This is a very good football team and I think their defense will be better than Seattle’s offense on Sunday night.
